As we celebrate today our freedom and independence, it is crucial to remember the pivotal role that leadership played in shaping our nation's destiny. The leaders of the American Revolution possessed an unwavering vision and an indomitable spirit that inspired the members of 13 disparate colonies to unite against a formidable and well-established enemy. These leaders, through their courage, resilience, and strategic acumen, galvanized ordinary citizens to take extraordinary steps toward a common goal of liberty and self-determination.On this Independence Day, let us honor the legacy of these visionary leaders by reflecting on the qualities they embodied. As we enjoy the freedoms they fought so hard to secure, may we also strive to emulate their commitment to justice, equality, and the greater good. Let us be inspired by their example to lead with integrity and purpose in our own lives, contributing to the ongoing quest for a more perfect union. #leadership #IndependenceDay

"Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek." - Barack ObamaBarack Obama's powerful quote encapsulates the essence of personal responsibility and empowerment. It serves as a call to action, reminding us that meaningful change cannot be passively waited for—it must be actively pursued. By emphasizing that "we are the ones we've been waiting for," Obama underscores the notion that individuals possess the agency and capacity to drive change in their own lives and communities. This message resonates deeply in the realm of social and political activism, encouraging individuals to take ownership of their circumstances and work towards positive transformation.Furthermore, Obama's words challenge the tendency to defer responsibility to external factors or authorities. Instead of waiting for someone else to enact change or for the perfect conditions to arise, he urges us to recognize our own power and agency in effecting change. By acknowledging that "we are the change that we seek," Obama empowers individuals to step into leadership roles and become agents of progress and innovation. Ultimately, this quote serves as a rallying cry for proactive engagement and collective action, inspiring individuals to embrace their role as drivers of change in the world.#BeTheChange #TakeAction #PersonalEmpowerment #Leadership #SocialChange #Activism #OwnYourPower #Proactive #MakeADifference #Empowerment #thecoachinginstitute #theinternationalcoachinginstitute

🗣️Keep Showing Up!!🗣️In honor of Black History Month, we reflect on the wise words of the great philosopher, Jay Z: " Keep showing up." These words are a reminder to keep pushing forward and showing up, even in the face of daunting challenges. In the current job market, it can be difficult to secure meaningful work in a safe and inclusive space. However, Jay Z's message encourages us to keep striving for success and to believe in our own abilities as entrepreneurs and leaders. So let us take this month to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black individuals throughout history, while also recognizing the work that still needs to be done to create a truly equitable society. And let us remember to keep showing up, no matter what obstacles may come our way. #BlackHistoryMonth #Entrepreneurship #Leadership

Have you ever wondered if racial minorities can be considered allies, especially as it relates to race? In our recent publication, we find that it matters "who" the allyship targets and "how" the allyship is framed. Although there are penalties for Racial Minority Leaders allying within their own race (e.g., Black leaders allying with Black employees), they can be viewed as effective allies when engaging in cross-race allyship (e.g., Black leaders allying with Asian employees). However, when leaders do target within their own race, these penalties can be mitigated when they publicly highlight the ideas and voices of the employees they lead.Read in more detail here: https://lnkd.in/gWvKZK4hA major shoutout to my amazing co-authors (McKenzie Preston, Angelica Leigh, Ph.D., Ricky Burgess, and Vic Marsh, Ph.D.) as well as The PhD Project and Management Faculty of Color Association (MFCA) for their support. #research#dei#allyship#leadership#BeingDrBoyd

We recently read an article in Forbes by Janice Gassam Asare that was quite striking: "Claudine Gay Resigns From Harvard: Why Black Excellence Is Never Enough."Gassam Assare writes in the wake of Harvard University's first Black president, Dr. Claudine Gay, resigning from her position. She writes about how this has raised many important questions about the challenges faced by Black leaders. Despite their qualifications, many Black women in leadership roles experience heightened scrutiny and challenges, a trend that extends beyond academia.OAIB agrees- this scenario is a stark reminder that no amount of excellence or accolades can shield Black leaders, especially women, from systemic obstacles and biases. In an ideal world, leadership would come with the support needed to thrive. However, in reality, the path is often fraught with obstacles that unique to Black leaders.Read the full article on Forbes and let us know your thoughts: https://loom.ly/3BPh-Es

One of the things I stubbornly learned in business school was to engage with those whose opinions differed from mine.Following this wisdom, I recently watched a five-part BBC series on Great Britain's first female prime minister, Margaret Thatcher. Her policies and political views varied significantly from mine, but as I watched, I found myself admiring her courage and uncompromising leadership. It's not lost on me that Thatcher created policies that negatively impacted Black and working-class families. However, I can acknowledge this and that there are lessons in her story that I can apply to my career and personal life.As business leaders in these volatile times, as much as we can, it's important to listen and empathize with those whose beliefs and values are different than ours. Listening creates connection, and knowledge breeds foresight. When have you respectfully engaged with someone who differed from your principles? Was it worth it?#leadership #leadershipinsights #politicalhistory #primeminister #documentary
